How Much Sleep Do Puppies Really Need to Thrive and Stay Happy?

But how much sleep and rest is enough for our furry little bundles of chaos?
Just like human babies, puppies need a ton of sleep to grow, develop, and figure out what on earth they've just seen. Plus, it helps them learn all those new tricks we love to teach them.
Dogs are social snoozers. From birth, they love the cozy cuddle, warmth, and sweet symphony of snores from their litter mates and mom snuggled up beside them.
Then, we expect these tiny furballs, many just eight weeks old, to suddenly be okay with snoozing solo in a crate when they move to their new digs.
No wonder they have a hard time adjusting!
Studies say that puppies need a whopping 18 to 20 hours of sleep in a 24-hour period. Yep, that's a whole lot of shut-eye, but without it, they might turn into little land sharks with a side of ZOOMIES!!!
While zoomies can be hilarious to watch, they're actually a puppy's way of saying, "I'm overtired and need a nap!" It's like a furry tornado having an emotional meltdown as they ZOOM!
On a serious note, when puppies reach this level of hyperactivity, their bodies are flooded with cortisol and adrenaline, which isn't exactly the recipe for a healthy pup.
We've got plenty of tips for making sure your puppy gets the rest they need, but we'll save those for another blog post. Stay tuned!
